The Yellow Assessor has bright yellow body coloration and an orange band on the top of the dorsal fin and bottom of the anal fin. The Yellow Assessor is sometimes called Yellow Scissortail due to the distinct forked tail. They like to hang out in groups under structures where you often can see them hang out upside down, which is normal behavior. Another interesting fact about them is that they are mouth-brooders, and the males guard the eggs
Distribution
The Yellow Assessor’s natural distribution is in the Western Pacific area ranging from Australia to Papua New Guinea.
Temperament & Captive Care
The Yellow Assesor is a peaceful and sensitive fish. Considerations should be made by making sure they have plenty of hiding spaces and selecting tank mates that are less aggressive.
Feeding
In the wild Yellow Assessor’s feed on plankton and other small crustaceans. Our captive bred Yellow Assessors will feed on are conditioned to eat a variety of aquarium diets. They enjoy meaty feeds such as frozen mysis shrimp and frozen (and live) brine shrimp. The also readily eats pellets.
